Norsewood, with a population of around 330 people, is located at the northern end of the Tararua district. Norsewood was founded in 1872 when approximately 360 Norwegians and 11 Swedes arrived on the ship «Høvding» in Napier on 15 September, after a sea journey that had lasted 108 days. In addition, approximately 70 Danes came with the English ship «Ballarat». This happened on the basis that the governing powers in New Zealand had sent representatives to the Scandinavian countries to get people to emigrate to New Zealand. Most of these Scandinavians became the first settlers in Norsewood. It was incredibly exciting to visit this Scandinavian museum with Norwegian, Swedish and Danish things, including a Bindalsfæring.

Norsewood med et innbyggertall på omkring 330 mennesker, ligger i den nordlige enden av Tararuadistriktet. Norsewood ble grunnlagt i 1872 da det kom cirka 360 nordmenn og 11 svensker med skipet «Høvding» til Napier 15.september, etter en sjøreise som hadde vart i 108 dager. I tillegg kom det cirka 70 dansker med det engelske skipet «Ballarat».
