Singapore is one of the world’s most densely populated countries in terms of area with 5,866,139 inhabitants (2021). The population is made up of Chinese, Malays and Indians, as well as a large minority of immigrants from Europe and the USA as well as labor immigrants from other parts of Asia. The residents have a very high standard of living.

Singapore is a beautiful city which we found to be very well-regulated and aesthetically pleasing with green areas, clean and well-kept with beautiful parks. We have been to Singapore three times and have visited the «Singapore Botanic Garden», which in 2015 was listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, as well as the beautiful «National Orchid Garden». We recommend a visit to both the National Botanic Garden and the National Orchid Garden.

Furthermore, we recommend a visit to «Sentosa Island», which has been built as an amusement park for play and fun, with, among other things, carousels and chalk-white sandy beaches with an outdoor cinema, Univeral Studios, restaurants and more. The place was beautifully laid out like a park with beautiful flowers. To get to Sentosa you can take a bus, subway, cable car or walk. We took the subway one way and walked back via the Sentosa Boardwalk, which was a great walk.

Likewise, the well-known hotel «Raffles Hotel» is worth a visit. Raffles Hotel is a luxury hotel built in 1887 in typical «colonial style», named after Singapore’s founder Sir Stamford Raffle. The hotel is known for its luxury and exclusive restaurants, but is also known for being the origin of the drink «Singapore Sling». The hotel includes a tropical garden, museum and a Victorian-style theatre. We recommend the bar «Long Bar» to enjoy the world famous drink «Singapore Sling» and eat peanuts – where the shell of the nuts is thrown on the floor, which is a tradition there.

We were also at the vantage point at the legendary hotel «Marina Bay Sands» where we could look out over this beautiful city of Singapore. Marina Bay Sands is a building complex in Marina Bay. The most striking building consists of three towers, each 206.90 meters high, and a platform that sits on top of the towers. The complex was completed in 2010 and includes a hotel with a total of 2,561 rooms, a casino, a 120,000 m² conference and exhibition center, a 74,000 m² shopping center, a museum, two large cinemas, seven restaurants and an ice rink . On top of the platform there is a park and a 150 meter long swimming pool. From Marina Bay Sands there is a footbridge over to the Gardens by the Bay park area. The Chinese Garden is also worth a visit, which can be combined with a better but affordable meal at the Michelin-starred Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle fast food restaurant. There is also another fast food joint in Singapore, «Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle», which has been awarded a Michelin star.

We would like to travel back to Singapore, and would like a night at the hotel «Marina Bay Sands», which is known for having one of the world’s most spectacular swimming pools that stretches over the top of the hotel.

Singapore er en vakker by som vi opplevde meget velregulert og estetisk med grøntarealer, rent og velstelt med vakre parker. Videre anbefaler vi et besøk til «Sentosa Island» som er bygd opp som en fornøyelsespark for lek og moro, med blant annet karuseller og kritthvite sandstrender med utekino, Univeral Studios, restauranter med mer. Stedet var vakkert anlagt som en park med vakre blomster . For å komme til Sentosa kan en ta buss, t-bane, kabelbane eller gå. Vi tok t-bane den ene veien og gikk tilbake via Sentosa Boardwalk, som var en flott tur.

Likedan er det velkjente hotellet «Raffles Hotel» verdt et besøk. Vi vil gjerne reise tilbake til Singapore, og ønsker oss da en natt på hotellet «Marina Bay Sands», som er kjent for å ha et av verdens mest spektakulære badebasseng som strekker seg over toppen på hotellet.
