Seattle is the largest city in the state of Washington with 741,251 inhabitants in 2020 (Wikipedia; Bureau of the Census). The city was founded in the 1850s and is named after the Indian chief Noah Sealth, better known as Seattle. Many Scandinavian immigrants live in Seattle, especially in the Ballard neighborhood. Here is the «Nordic Heritage Museum», which is supposed to be the only museum in the USA devoted to Nordic immigration history. The city is also known as the «coffee capital» after, among others, Starbucks was founded there in 1971. Seattle is known for several cultural phenomena such as Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain and his band Nirvana, as well as Microsoft founder Bill Gates and others (Wikipedia; Google translated).

We visited family when we were in Seattle and had a nice few days with them. They took us around the city to the Boeing factory, the fish market and on adventurous tours around the city. We went further up to the observation tower «Space Needle», which is 184 meters high and where the viewing deck is 42 meters in diameter. The tower is built to withstand wind gusts of up to 320 km/h and earthquakes of up to 9.1 on the Richter scale. The viewing deck is on three floors. In 1982, a new floor was built above the ground, the «Sky Line», which is used for various events. A special experience for us was being with «Ride the Ducks», a car-boat that goes both on water and on land. It is always a great experience to come to Seattle and be with the family there.

Vi besøkte familie da vi var i Seattle og hadde noen fine dager sammen med dem. De tok oss med rundt i byen til Boeing-fabrikken, fiskemarkedet samt på opplevelsesrike turer i omegn av byen. Vi dro videre opp til utsiktstårnet «Space Needle», som er 184 meter høyt og hvor utsikts dekket er 42 meter i diameter. Tårnet er bygget for å tåle vindkast opp til 320 km/t og jordskjelv på opptil 9,1 på Richters skala. Utsikts dekket er på tre etasjer. I 1982 ble det bygget en ny etasje over bakken, «Sky Line», som brukes til ulike arrangementer. En spesiell opplevelse for oss var å være med «Ride the Ducks» en bil-båt som går både vann og på land. Det er alltid en fin opplevelse å komme til Seattle og være sammen med familien der.
