We have heard and read a lot about Rio de Janeiro, which with its 6,747,815 inhabitants (2020) is the second largest city in Brazil after Sao Paulo (Wikipedia). It has a number of famous landmarks that we were looking forward to experiencing – among others the Christ statue, Sugarloaf Mountain, the cable car (Sugarloaf Mountain Gondola), Copacabana beach and the popular carnival that is organized two weeks before Lent and ends on Shrove Tuesday. We took part in a trip organized by the cruise company, and among other things we took the cable car up to Sugarloaf Mountain. When we got to the top – we were very impressed by the great view of the city. If we should be able to experience everything we wanted, we had to have more than the one day we were there.

Vi har hørt og lest en del om Rio de Janeiro, som med sine 6 747 815 innbyggere (2020) er den nest største byen i Brasil etter Sao Paulo (Wikipedia). Den har en rekke kjente landemerker som vi gledet oss til å oppleve – blant andre Kristusstatuen, Sukkertoppen, taubanen (Sugarloaf Mountain Gondola), stranden Copacabana og det populære karnevalet som arrangeres to uker før fasten begynner og slutter på fetetirsdag. Vi var med på tur som ble arrangert av cruiseselskapet, og tok blant annet taubanen opp til Sukkertoppen. Da vi kom opp i høyden – ble vi meget imponert over den flotte utsikten over byen. For å kunne oppleve alt vi ønsket måtte vi ha hatt flere enn den ene dagen vi var der.
