Paris is the capital of France and of the region of Ile-de-France. The city municipality had 2,165,423 inhabitants in 2019, while the city of Paris had 10,816,803 inhabitants in 2018. The city is located in the northern part of France on the Seine just below the mouth of the Marne City. (Large Norwegian encyclopedia). Paris is the center of the communication network in France for both rail, air traffic and motorways, and local traffic in and around the city is provided by the railway, metro and buses.

Since the 17th century, Paris has been one of the most important centers in Europe for finance, trade, fashion, science and art, and is today one of the world’s most influential metropolises. The city has a versatile industry and is known for its clothing industry and the production of luxury goods such as perfume, jewellery, cosmetics and haute couture. The service industries include central administration and many institutions within trade, banking and insurance. The large tourist traffic forms the basis for significant employment within the hotel and restaurant industry. The city also has many practitioners of so-called liberal professions such as artists, writers and actors.

We have visited Paris several times and always find it a pleasant city to return to. On our trips, we have seen, among other sights, the Eifel Tower, which has a height of 330 meters (with antenna). The Eiffel Tower is the most famous landmark in Paris, and is internationally known as a symbol of France. Likewise, we have seen the Arc de Triomphe, located on Place Charles de Gaulle. It was begun in 1806 and completed in 1836, and is 50 meters high. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is under the Arc de Triomphe. Furthermore, we have seen the cathedral Notre Dame, the Louvre pyramid, a sightseeing tour around the city by bus, been to Disneyland Paris and on a boat trip on the Seine and more. Paris is a great city that we would love to go back again.

Paris er midtpunktet i kommunikasjonsnettet i Frankrike for både jernbane, flytrafikk og motorveier, og lokaltrafikken i og rundt byen besørges av jernbanen, metroen og busser.

Paris har siden 1600-tallet vært ett av de mest betydningsfulle senter i Europa for finans, handel, moter, vitenskap og kunst, og er i dag en av verdens mest innflytelsesrike metropoler. Byen har en allsidig industri, samt er kjent for sin konfeksjonsindustri og produksjon av luksusvarer som parfyme, smykker, kosmetikk og heute couture. Servicenæringene omfatter sentraladministrasjon og mange institusjoner innen handel, bank- og forsikringsvirksomhet. Den store turisttrafikken danner grunnlag for en betydelig sysselsetting innen hotell- og restaurantnæringen.  Byen har også mange utøvere av såkalte liberale yrker som kunstnere, forfattere og skuespillere.

Vi har besøkt Paris flere ganger og synes alltid det er en trivelig by å komme tilbake dit. På våre turer har vi sett blant andre severdigheter som Eifeltårnet som har en høyde på 330 meter (med antenne). Eiffeltårnet er det mest kjente landemerke i Paris, og er internasjonalt kjent som et symbol for Frankrike. Likedan har vi sett Triumfbuen som ligger på Place Charles de Gaulle. Den ble påbegynt i 1806 og fullført i 1836, og er 50 meter høy. Den ukjente soldats grav ligger under Triumfbuen. Videre har vi sett katedralen Notre Dame, Louvre- pyramiden, sightseeingtur rundt i byen med buss, vært i Disneyland Paris og på båttur på Seinen med mer. Paris er en flott by som vi gjerne drar tilbake til igjen.
