Nice is the fifth largest city in France with around 1,000,000 inhabitants. The urban area of Nice extends beyond the city’s administrative boundaries, and the city is located on the southeast coast of France on the Mediterranean. (Wikipedia).

Nice is called «Nice la Belle», and the city’s mild Mediterranean climate and natural beauty meant that many from the English aristocracy and the upper class from the 18th century began to spend the winters in Nice. Likewise, the clear air and soft light have had a particular attraction for many of the leading artists of the 19th and 20th centuries, such as Marc Chagall and Henri Matisse and others. Nice is a popular tourist destination and the city has the second largest hotel capacity in France, receiving around 5,000,000 tourists and visitors each year.

We have been to Nice in connection with a cruise. It is a beautiful city – and it is an experience to walk along the beautiful promenade «Promenade des Anglais» where the luxury hotels are lined up.
