Mallorca is one of the islands in the «Balearic» archipelago, located in the Mediterranean just off the coast of Spain. Palma is the capital of Mallorca and the region of the Balearic Islands with 861,430 inhabitants estimated in 2016. Mallorca is a well-known tourist destination with many tourists seeking sun, warmth and swimming. The island’s economy is based on tourism, which began as early as the 1950s. During this, mass tourism has led to changes both in Palma city and the rest of the island, which has been transformed into a center of attractions to attract foreign tourists. With the tourists also came workers from mainland Spain, which led to a major change in the island’s local traditions, urbanization and business life (Wikipedia; Google translated).

We visited Palma city in June 2022, and had some nice days there with long-awaited sun and warmth. We stayed at «Hotel Palma Bellver», and had a few lovely days there with a fantastic breakfast buffet and relaxation by the hotel’s pool. During the day it was around 35 degrees Celsius so we mostly stayed in the shade. In the evening the temperature was more comfortable. We then wandered around in the city, in parks, went shopping, ate delicious Spanish dishes with good Spanish drinks in cozy outdoor restaurants. It was great to experience the folk life along the harbor there and more – in short, it was a wonderful holiday for us.

Mallorca er en av øyene i øygruppen «Balearene» som ligger i Middelhavet like utenfor kysten av Spania. Palma er hovedstaden på Mallorca og i regionen Balearene med 861 430 innbyggere beregnet i 2016. Mallorca er et velkjent turiststed med mange turister som søker dit for sol, varme og bading. Vi var i Palma by i juni 2022, og hadde noen fine dager der med etterlengtet sol og varme. Vi bodde på «Hotel Palma Bellver», og hadde noen deilige dager der med en fantastisk god frokostbuffe og avslapning ved hotellets basseng. På dagtid var det rundt 35 varmegrader så vi holdt oss for det meste i skyggen. På kvelden var temperaturen mer behagelig. Vi vandret da rundt i byen, i parker, gikk på shopping, spiste nydelige spanske retter med god spansk drikke på koselige uterestauranter. Det var flott å oppleve folkelivet langs havnen der med mer – kort sagt en herlig ferie å tenke tilbake på.
