Kobe is one of Japan’s most important port cities which opened for trade with the West in 1868. Together with Osaka and Kyoto, Kobe forms Japan’s second largest area with a population of around 18 million inhabitants, while the city of Kobe itself had 1,535,454 inhabitants in 2015 ( Wikipedia). The city has a significant industry, particularly heavy industry, but also the fashion industry and food production. There are several large parks there as well as an aquarium, museums and Chinatown and more. The town also has a Norwegian sailor’s church (Store norske lexikon).

Kobe was one of the destinations we visited in connection with a cruise from Shanghai via South Korea, Japan, Russia and to Canada. We stopped by Kobe on a day trip and used the day for a city walk, shopping and a visit to Chinatown. Recommend a visit to Kobe.
