Hamburg, officially Freie und Hansestadt Hamburg, is Germany’s second largest city after Berlin, as well as one of the country’s states with its 1,841,000 inhabitants in 2019 (Eurostat). Hamburg arose in the early 8th century as an outpost of Charlemagne’s empire. It became an important religious center for the Nordic region early on, and the means of livelihood were trade, fishing and cattle breeding. We only had a couple of days in Hamburg where we wandered around in the city to look around. We used one of the days to travel to the city of Neumunster, which is approximately 50 minutes by train from Hamburg. There we were at the Designer Outlet Mall, a great organized shopping place where we could buy various things, clothes and shoes at greatly reduced prices. We would have liked to have had several days in Hamburg so that we could get to know all the offers and sights that are there better.
