Berlin is Germany’s federal capital and at the same time one of the country’s states. The city has its history back to the 13th century. In the 15th century, it became the residence of the Electors of Brandenburg. The Lutheran Reformation was carried out in 1539 in Berlin. During the 30 Years’ War between 1618 and 1648, a third of the city was destroyed and the population reduced to half. In the 18th and 19th centuries, a number of monumental buildings were erected in the city, and Berlin became a center of European politics and culture, particularly art, archeology and music. Upon the formation of the German Empire in 1871, the city was made the national capital. Berlin’s history became turbulent in the 20th century. It was a great experience to come to Berlin and stay at the beautiful and centrally located Steigenberger Hotel, which had an indoor swimming pool and great facilities. It was lovely in the morning to be able to get out of bed and go straight into the pool and enjoy a good morning bath before we went out on the town. We wandered around in the city and were at the Brandenburg Gate, and from there we went through «Check Point-Charlie» and into the former East Germany, which has now been turned into a city with, among other things, exclusive shops. As the pictures show, there was a «Pride parade» in Berlin when we visited the city.

Vi vandret rundt i byen og var på Brandenburger Tor, samt gikk derfra gjennom «Check Point-Charlie» og inn i det tidligere Øst-Tyskland, som nå var gjort om til en by med blant annet eksklusive butikker. Som bildene viser så var det «Pride-parade» i Berlin da vi besøkte byen.
