Alexandria is Egypt’s second largest city and in 2015 had around 4,778,000 inhabitants. Popularly called the «Pearl of the Mediterranean», the city is a significant economic center in Egypt. We would like to mention here that Alexandria’s library was designed by the Norwegian architectural firm Snøhetta, and was officially inaugurated in 2001 (Great Norwegian Encyclopedia; Google translated).

We came to Alexandria in connection with a cruise from Dubai to Barcelona. We had two days there which we prioritized for a boat trip on the Nile, as well as seeing the pyramids in Cairo and likewise the Sphinx in Giza. There was therefore no time to see much of Alexandria, apart from a sightseeing tour by bus around the city in connection with the trip to Cairo.

Alexandria er Egypts nest største by og hadde i 2015 rundt 4 778 000 innbyggere. Byen er populært kalt «Middelhavets perle», og er et betydelig økonomisk senter i Egypt. Vi vil her nevne at Alexandrias bibliotek er tegnet av det norske arkitektfirmaet Snøhetta, og ble offisielt innviet i 2001 (Store norske leksikon).

Vi kom til Alexandria i forbindelse med et cruise fra Dubai til Barcelona. Vi hadde to dager der som vi prioriterte til båttur på Nilen, samt å se pyramidene i Kairo og likedan Sfinksen i Giza. Det ble derfor ikke tid til å se så mye av Alexandria, bortsett fra en sightseeingtur med buss rundt i byen i forbindelse med turen til Kairo.
